SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
Academic scholarships, along with art, music and drama awards, are presented yearly to students in Manchester’s public high schools. Three of the academic scholarships are given in memory of Patricia Stips, a Memorial High School teacher, who bequeathed a scholarship fund.
Academic Scholarships: Only graduating females are eligible. After the Scholarship Committee screens applications and conducts interviews with the candidates, the recipients are presented with scholarships at the Spring Luncheon meeting held in June.
Art & Music Awards: Both graduating female and male students are eligible. Selections, made by the schools’ respective department chairs, are based on ability, growth, and participation in school activities. In May, the students exhibit their art portfolios and present their musical performances at the club meeting.
Drama Award: This award is given to one public high school drama group on a rotating basis. In February, the recipient presents a program at the club meeting.
The Athena Award is given biennially in March to a woman in the Greater Manchester Area who exemplifies the qualities of leadership, superior performance, commitment to community, and unselfish assistance to women and women’s issues. Recipients are chosen by a committee appointed by the president.
